Improvements
Updated how the controller caches cluster object data when the Boxcutter runtime is enabled. Object sets are cached when they include an owner label, and deployments retain annotation filtering; deployments without that label have their specification and status excluded from the cache.
The controller continues to use the existing default cache settings when the Boxcutter runtime is not enabled.
Reduce retained Boxcutter cache data while preserving objects needed for
revision discovery, ownership checks, and storage migration.
Co-Authored-By: GPT-6 Luna <noreply@github.com>
The manager cache configuration moved into newCacheOptions. Default cache settings remain, and Boxcutter runtime enables owner-label filtering for object sets and spec/status clearing for unlabeled deployments.

Summary
Build and apply cache options cmd/operator-controller/main.go
newCacheOptions defines default cache settings and adds Boxcutter-specific caching for ClusterObjectSet and ClusterObjectDeployment. Unlabeled deployments have their spec and status cleared, and annotation stripping applies to all deployments. run calls the helper and returns configuration errors with a configuring manager cache prefix. The inline RBAC cache entries were removed.
Migration can miss existing revisions, and fallback status can reflect an unrelated deployment. Resolve these issues before merging.

Retain unlabeled ClusterObjectSet revisions in the cache.
The storage migrator must treat an existing revision as present regardless of owner metadata. The new cache selector hides unlabeled revisions before ListForGroup reads them. Migration can therefore re-enter Helm migration and create a duplicate revision.

@joelanford Not the same spec/status-clearing behavior. A COS-specific transform can reduce retained data, but it must preserve the fields used by revision discovery and migration.
I checked the current consumers:
SetupIndexes indexes Spec.Group. Clearing it makes the COS invisible to ListForGroup.
ListForGroup sorts by Spec.Revision.
BoxcutterRevisionStatesGetter reads Spec.LifecycleState, Status.CompletedAt, Status.Conditions, and bundle annotations.
ensureMigratedRevisionStatus reads Spec.Revision and Status.CompletedAt.
For this PR, I recommend caching all COS objects without clearing their spec or status. If you need further memory reduction, use a separate COS transform that removes only fields confirmed unused by operator-controller. Keep that transform out of object-controller’s cache.
Also, assigning transformClusterObjectDeployment directly to COS would only run annotation stripping. Its type assertion would skip the COS.

#3084 will update the RevisionStatesGetter to look only at COS objects in the ownership chain of CE -> COD -> COS.
For ensureMigratedRevisionStatus, I assume that migrated revisions will have the owner label. Therefore those will have the full spec/status available?

@joelanford Yes. Migrated revisions receive labels.OwnerNameKey: ext.Name. GenerateRevisionFromHelmRelease calls buildClusterObjectSet, which adds that label. A COS-specific transform that clears spec/status only when the label is absent would preserve full spec/status for those migrated revisions.
You are also correct that #3084 narrows status reporting to the CE → COD → COS ownership chain. My previous reply did not separate that path from migration clearly enough.
One migration constraint remains: #3084 does not change Migrate’s initial ListForGroup check. The existing test, "looks up only the group regardless of owner metadata", explicitly removes the owner label and requires that revision to prevent repeated migration.
For an unlabeled COS, you can therefore clear status and most spec fields, but preserve Spec.Group and Spec.Revision for migration discovery and sorting. Cache all COS objects so that the selector does not exclude them before this check.
Require ownership before accepting the fallback COD.
The new cache makes every ClusterObjectDeployment visible, including an unrelated object with the same name as the ClusterExtension. The bundle-unavailable branch accepts that object from a name-only Get and returns success without checking ownership. Status reflection then reads the transform-cleared spec and status.
Require the COD to belong to the current extension before returning success. An uncached status read would expose the unowned object’s data without fixing this ownership boundary.

@joelanford Agreed with that sequence: merge #3084 first, then rebase this PR. This finding remains open until we verify that the rebased code checks ownership before accepting the fallback ClusterObjectDeployment.
