* [[generic-db-26_7_0]]The SDP now provides a generic database connection mechanism, giving a consistent, typed way to configure connections to external SQL databases across operators.
The same typed structure is used in every CRD, so it can be copied between stacklets.
+
*Breaking:* This replaces the previous free-form connection strings with a typed struct, and requires changes to your custom resources (and, in some cases, your Secrets):

Existing custom resources are not converted, whatever their `apiVersion`, because the old connection strings live in Secrets.
After the operator upgrade, the operator rejects every unmigrated resource with an error such as `SupersetCluster object is invalid` and changes none of its objects, so the stacklet keeps running but is not reconciled.
To migrate a stacklet, create the Secrets that the new connection fields reference, upgrade the operator, then apply the updated custom resource.
For the `generic` connection variant, copy the existing connection string into a Secret under the key `connectionUrl`.
+
The changes per operator:

** *Apache Airflow:* The `.clusterConfig.credentialsSecret` field is renamed to `.clusterConfig.credentialsSecretName`, and the database connection becomes a typed struct.
The Celery broker and results backend move into `clusterConfig` as well, see link:#airflow-improvements-26_7_0[Apache Airflow].
Consult the xref:airflow:usage-guide/database-connections.adoc[database connections] documentation page for more details.

** *Apache Superset:* the connection becomes a typed struct, and the operator now uses an internal Secret for the Superset `SECRET_KEY` (created automatically if missing).
Keep `connections.secretKey` in the credentials Secret until the 26.7 operator has reconciled the stacklet once, because the operator copies it into the internal Secret.
Without it the operator generates a new key and Superset cannot decrypt values encrypted with the old one.

===== Apache Spark

* *Breaking:* Spark application templates are now namespaced objects instead of cluster-wide objects.
They were unintentionally released as cluster-wide objects in SDP 26.3.
You must recreate any templates in the namespaces where the applications run.
Every cluster that ran the 26.3 Spark operator has the cluster-scoped `sparkapptemplates.spark.stackable.tech` CustomResourceDefinition, whether or not any templates were created.
Kubernetes cannot change the scope of an existing CustomResourceDefinition, so delete it before upgrading the operator, otherwise the operator fails to start and reconciles no Spark resources at all.
Deleting it also deletes all templates, which must then be recreated in the namespaces where the applications run.
Follow the xref:spark-k8s:usage-guide/upgrade.adoc#_upgrade_from_sdp_26_3_to_26_7[Apache Spark upgrade guide].
Fixed in https://github.com/stackabletech/spark-k8s-operator/pull/694[spark-k8s-operator#694] (reapplied in https://github.com/stackabletech/spark-k8s-operator/pull/720[spark-k8s-operator#720]).
* User arguments are now correctly propagated to the Spark Connect server.
Previously, the newline concatenation in the Spark Connect server entrypoint was faulty which resulted in user arguments being dropped.
