Lossless OS (https://github.com/bobbydotdesign/lossless-os, Apache-2.0, LICENSE at the top of the repository) is open-source firmware for portable music players already on sale (the first: the HiFi Walker H2). With it the player is a USB device of our own making, in one of two roles the listener picks when plugging in: a mass storage device (the music card) or a USB Audio Class 2 sound card.
Why two PIDs: the two roles are different devices (mass storage, and an audio function with an interface association), and hosts remember drivers by VID:PID; one PID for both would have Windows in particular match the wrong one.
Why a PID for a software project: the device is the player running our firmware, so its owners can't usefully request their own.
