Mailtrap now calls Email Sandbox inboxes sandboxes and sending domains domains, and the API reference documents only the new names. This SDK still exposed testing_api, inboxes, inbox_id and sending_domains_api. It now adds the new names and keeps the old ones as deprecated aliases, so existing code keeps working. The other Mailtrap SDKs get the same rename.
Changes
new names: client.sandbox_api.sandboxes, client.domains_api.domains, MailtrapClient(sandbox_id=...), and the Sandbox / Domain models and params
methods take sandbox_id, sandbox_params and domain_id; company info takes domain_id
requests go to the same endpoints as before (/inboxes, /sending_domains), so responses and wire fields such as EmailMessage.inbox_id and Project.inboxes don't change
Email Inbound inboxes are not renamed
every old name still works and raises a DeprecationWarning: "X is deprecated and will be removed in a future major release; use Y instead."
testing_api, .inboxes, InboxesApi, sending_domains_api, .sending_domains, SendingDomainsApi, MailtrapClient(inbox_id=), client.inbox_id and SendingApi(inbox_id=)
old keyword arguments (inbox_id=, inbox_params=, sending_domain_id=) are mapped to the new ones; passing both raises TypeError
MailtrapClient keeps inbox_id in its signature and adds sandbox_id as the last parameter, so positional callers aren't affected; different inbox_id and sandbox_id values raise ClientConfigurationError
the old models (Inbox, SendingDomain, Create*/Update* params) are plain aliases, so they stay typed and don't warn
Python reports each warning once per call site, so loops don't repeat it
README: the sandbox example uses sandbox_id and MAILTRAP_SANDBOX_ID, a new "Renamed APIs" table maps old names to new ones, and the examples move to examples/sandbox/ and examples/domains/.
⚠️ Type checkers (mypy, pyright) now flag the old keyword arguments of the renamed methods, e.g. messages.get_list(inbox_id=...), because the methods' signatures show only the new names. This is the intended deprecation signal; at runtime the old keywords keep working.
How to test
You'll need an API token and an account ID with a sandbox and a domain.
Send to a sandbox with the new name: MailtrapClient(token=..., sandbox=True, sandbox_id=<id>).send(mail) delivers the email to that sandbox.
Send with the old name: the same call with inbox_id=<id> still delivers the email and raises a DeprecationWarning (run with python -W default::DeprecationWarning to see it).
List sandboxes: client.sandbox_api.sandboxes.get_list() returns Sandbox objects; client.testing_api.inboxes.get_list() returns the same list and warns.
Messages: client.sandbox_api.messages.get_list(sandbox_id=<id>) returns the sandbox's messages; get_list(inbox_id=<id>) returns the same and warns.
List domains: client.domains_api.domains.get_list() returns Domain objects; client.sending_domains_api.sending_domains.get_list() returns the same list and warns.
Company info: client.company_info_api.company_info.get(domain_id=<id>) works; get(sending_domain_id=<id>) works and warns.
Added APIs for managing sandboxes and domains, including listing, creating, retrieving, updating, and deleting them.
Added examples for sandbox management, message operations, and domain management.
Sandbox-mode sending now accepts a sandbox ID.
Documentation
Updated setup guidance and examples to use sandbox and domain terminology.
Compatibility
Legacy inbox and sending-domain names remain available; deprecated client members and arguments issue warnings, while renamed keyword arguments continue to work.
Decisions:
- the product and API docs now say sandbox and domain, so the SDK exposes those names
- old names stay as aliases that raise DeprecationWarning, so a minor release breaks no one
- API paths and wire fields stay the same, so requests and responses are unchanged
- renamed method keywords go through renamed_kwargs, so type checkers see only the new names
- MailtrapClient and SendingApi keep inbox_id in the signature, so the most common call still type-checks
- old models are plain aliases, so imports stay typed and don't warn

Walkthrough
The PR adds Sandbox and Domains models, APIs, and client accessors. It updates sandbox sending configuration and examples to use the new names. Legacy Inbox and Sending Domains names remain available through compatibility paths, with deprecation warnings for specified legacy members and arguments. The README and unit tests cover the renamed APIs.
Changes: Sandbox and Domain API Renames
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Models and deprecation support mailtrap/models/sandboxes.py, mailtrap/models/domains.py, mailtrap/models/inboxes.py, mailtrap/models/sending_domains.py, mailtrap/models/projects.py, mailtrap/__init__.py, mailtrap/_deprecation.py, tests/unit/models/*, tests/unit/test_deprecations.py
Adds Sandbox and Domain models and parameter types. Legacy model names alias the new types. Deprecation helpers map renamed keyword arguments and resolve renamed constructor arguments.
Adds sandbox_id client configuration and API arguments. Resource methods accept deprecated inbox_id or sending_domain_id keywords and map them to the new names. Tests cover URL construction, configuration checks, warnings, and argument conflicts.
Adds Domains and Sandbox examples, updates sandbox sending examples and documentation, and removes the former testing and sending-domain examples. Related API descriptions now use Sandbox and Domain terminology.
The rename is mergeable with bounded follow-up: guard the sandbox example against an empty project list, add the focused URL regression test, and confirm separately maintained examples remain accurate.

The description follows the repository template. It has Motivation, Changes, How to test, and an Images and GIFs area. The Motivation explains the rename and why old names remain as deprecated aliases. The Changes section lists the new names, the deprecated aliases, and the README updates. The How to test section gives concrete manual checks. The Images and GIFs section is absent. That section applies to UI changes, and this SDK change has no UI, so its absence is non-critical. The How to test items are unchecked, which is expected for a pre-merge description.

Handle the empty 204 response in SandboxesApi.delete.

Handle the empty 204 response in SandboxesApi.delete.
SandboxesApi.delete passes the response to Sandbox(**response). The API returns 204 with no body for this call, so HttpClient.delete returns None and the unpacking raises TypeError after the sandbox is deleted. The same code exists in InboxesApi.delete on the base revision, so this predates the PR.

Add a regression test for SandboxesApi.get_by_id that registers the /inboxes/0
URL, calls get_by_id(0), and asserts the request uses that URL. This should fail
if SandboxesApi._api_path changes its sandbox_id check from an explicit None
check to a truthiness check.
Decisions:
- An account with no projects made the example fail with a bare IndexError; exit with a clear message instead
- Pin the explicit None check in SandboxesApi._api_path so a truthiness check can't return unnoticed

Should-fix: TestingApi.inboxes used to return InboxesApi; it now returns SandboxesApi, which is the parent class, not a subclass. Users' isinstance(api, InboxesApi) becomes False. api: InboxesApi = client.testing_api.inboxes fails mypy. mock.patch.object(InboxesApi, "get_list") no longer intercepts calls through client.testing_api.inboxes, so those test suites start hitting the real API. The same applies to SendingDomainsBaseApi.sending_domains in mailtrap/api/sending_domains.py:13, which returns DomainsApi rather than SendingDomainsApi. The README table (lines 296, 301) still says these return InboxesApi/SendingDomainsApi.
Suggestion: Return InboxesApi(...)/SendingDomainsApi(...) from the deprecated properties and keep those return annotations. Build them without the second class-level warning (e.g. a private no-warn path or warnings.catch_warnings()). Change test_testing_api_inboxes_is_deprecated_alias_of_sandboxes and the sending-domains test to assert the old class.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Question: With renamed_kwargs, mypy and pyright report the old keywords as errors, not deprecation notices. The previous examples used the keyword form (attachments_api.get_list(inbox_id=..., message_id=...), create(project_id=..., inbox_params=...)), so users who copied them and type-check in CI get a red build on a minor upgrade. The Java and Node siblings only produce deprecation warnings.
Suggestion: Consider @typing.overload signatures for the old keywords marked @typing_extensions.deprecated (typing_extensions already comes in through pydantic), so type checkers warn instead of erroring. Otherwise, call it out as a typing break in the release notes.
