List the collection on containers.dev? (deferred 2026-10-28) #21

Context

The collection is published publicly to ghcr.io/craftainer/devcontainer-features, but it isn't listed in the containers.dev feature index. On 2026-10-28 the maintainer decided not to list it for now; listing can be done later with one PR. This issue keeps the research so that decision can be revisited.

How listing works

• Open a PR against devcontainers/devcontainers.github.io, on its gh-pages branch, appending one entry to _data/collection-index.yml:
  • name
  • maintainer
  • contact: the repo's issues URL
  • repository
  • ociReference: ghcr.io/craftainer/devcontainer-features (lowercase, the namespace root)
• Requirements: public packages that resolve without a login, the published collection metadata package, the PR template's "distinct functionality" acknowledgement, and a strict yamllint pass.
• Review takes about 2–20 days. A daily crawl checks that the collection stays live. Removal is by PR.

Trade-offs

• Discoverability, against outside users starting to depend on feature IDs and options, which makes them harder to change.
• cli-claude-code overlaps Anthropic's own listed feature, though nothing in the rules forbids that.
• The middle option, the current state: publish publicly without listing.

• Decide whether to list the collection.
• If yes: confirm all packages still pull anonymously, then open the collection-index.yml PR.
