chore: add flaky test detection to Playwright - #2358
As suggested here, I added flaky test detection to the Playwright configuration: if the test is failed, it is retried until it is passed (marked as a flaky) or until all 3 attempts have been exhausted (marked as a failed).
retries: 3 - count of retries retryStrategy: "isolated" - runs retries after all tests failOnFlakyTests: true - enables flaky detection.
Test Procedure
Run pnpm --filter @roo-code/vscode-webview test:visual
If WelcomeViewProvider.visual.tsx failed again, you can notice that now it's marked as flaky test:
Issue Linked: This PR is linked to an approved GitHub Issue (see "Related GitHub Issue" above).
Scope: My changes are focused on the linked issue (one major feature/fix per PR).
Self-Review: I reviewed my own code with care.
Writing Style: The PR title and description use Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100): short sentences, plain words, active voice, one idea per sentence, no contractions.
Testing: New and/or updated tests have been added to cover my changes (if applicable).
Test Helpers (test changes only): Shared test helpers (src/test-utils/, @/utils/test-utils) are used only for mechanical duplication; test intent and scenario-specific mocks remain visible.
Visual Snapshot (UI changes only): If a user would notice this change at a glance (layout, theme tokens, brand elements, empty/error states), I added or updated a *.visual.tsx snapshot in webview-ui/. See webview-ui/AGENTS.md → "When a UI change needs a snapshot".
Documentation Impact: I checked if my changes need documentation updates (see "Documentation Updates" section below).
Resolve them on the pull request, or post @coderabbitai approve as a new top-level comment to resolve them and request approval.

Tests
Automated test runs now retry failed tests twice and fail when tests are flaky. This updates test-run behavior only; it does not change application behavior.
The Playwright component-test configuration sets two retries and fails the run when tests are flaky.
[BUG] Flaky WelcomeViewProvider test #2326: The configuration changes how intermittent failures in the cited test are reported. It does not address the contrast-ratio cause described in the issue.
Merge Risk: Low · up to 5ea4b
Flaky tests now fail the visual run as configured. Merge risk is bounded: widespread slow failures can exhaust the CI deadline before all retries finish. Increasing the job budget would preserve complete results.

Regression Evidence
The PR only adds Playwright retry and flaky-test settings in webview-ui/playwright-ct.config.ts. The check does not require tests for mechanical configuration changes.
Security Boundaries
The only changes in webview-ui/playwright-ct.config.ts set test retries and fail on flaky tests. They do not introduce a security boundary violation.
Persistence Integrity
The PR changes only Playwright retry and flaky-test settings in webview-ui/playwright-ct.config.ts. It does not change a persistence path.
Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
The change adds Playwright retries and flaky-test failure reporting in webview-ui/playwright-ct.config.ts. It does not change a resource lifecycle path.
Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "chore: add flaky test detection to Playwright" matches the single config change, which enables retries and flaky-test failure reporting in the Playwright config. It is short, specific, and names the main change. The "chore:" prefix is a conventional-commit type and does not hurt clarity.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template. It includes the linked issue, a clear description of the retry and flaky detection settings, a test procedure with before and after results, and a completed checklist. Two points are weaker. The issue link uses "Relates: #2326" instead of the template's "Closes:" form, and the description still says "retries: 3" while the commit message says the count was reduced to 2, so the stated value does not match the commit. The description also contains a few sentences that are not in short active voice, such as "it is retried until it is passed". These are minor issues, and the description is mostly complete.
Resolution
Confirm the retry count. The description says retries: 3, but the commit message reports a change to 2. Update the description to match the final config. Optionally, use the template's "Closes:" line if the issue should close on merge.

If 50 tests take 10 seconds per failed attempt, two workers need at least 12.5 minutes for the attempts and retries. The 10-minute job deadline can cancel the run before all tests receive a final classification. Increase the deadline to cover retries and report upload.

Add a controlled flaky-run exit-status check.
Add an automated check that uses the visual test command, fails once, passes on retry, and asserts a nonzero exit status. This would cover the CI command’s flaky-result behavior, which is not currently asserted.
