.. _release-4-14-0:

4.14.0 (2026-10-28)

.. _release-4-14-0-added:

Added

  • Accept a keyword-only ensure_exists in the module-level media directory functions, such as :func:~platformdirs.user_documents_path, to create a directory set through XDG_*_DIR or user-dirs.dirs (:pr:656) by :user:darrenhuai and :user:gaborbernat.

.. _release-4-14-0-fixed:

Fixed

  • Return the media and fonts directories under root's home for root with use_site_for_root, ignoring the invoking user's XDG_*_DIR, user-dirs.dirs and XDG_DATA_HOME, and create no inherited media directory under ensure_exists (:pr:661) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Raise ValueError from site_data_dir and site_config_dir under multipath=True when appname or version contains os.pathsep, rather than returning a string that splits into a directory outside the site base (:pr:662) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Parse an unquoted user-dirs.dirs value with a long run of blanks in linear time, rather than in time quadratic in the run's length on every Unix media directory lookup (:pr:663) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Treat a relative HOME as unset on Unix, macOS and iOS, taking the home from the password database or raising RuntimeError, rather than resolving user directories against the working directory (:pr:664) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Refuse a symlink as XDG_RUNTIME_DIR in :func:~platformdirs.user_runtime_dir when the value ends with / or /., which made the check follow the link (:pr:665) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Redirect user_*_dir calls with use_site_for_root=True when the effective uid is 0, so a setuid-root process gets the site directories, and name and check the runtime directory by the effective uid (:pr:666) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Apply the XDG_RUNTIME_DIR check of the Unix :func:~platformdirs.user_runtime_dir to the macOS one, so it no longer uses a directory that is a symlink, owned by another user or not mode 0700 (:pr:667) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Reject an XDG_RUNTIME_DIR below a parent that another user can replace, such as their own entry in /tmp, instead of creating the runtime directory through it (:pr:668) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Stop accepting a Unix runtime directory that another user creates between the owner check and its use:

Updates httpx2 from 2.13.1 to 2.16.0

Release notes

Sourced from httpx2's releases.

v2.16.0

Highlights

🍪 Faster requests with large cookie jars

Building the Cookie header no longer scans every cookie in the jar. The client reuses its jar instead of copying it on every request and redirect (#1284), only looks up the domains that can match the request host, and skips the expired cookie sweep until a cookie is due (#1285). With 1,000 cookies across 500 domains, building the Cookie header is about 18 times faster.

Cookies from different domains are now sent from the least to the most specific domain, for example .example.org before sub.example.org, instead of in the order the domains were added. Cookies with longer paths still come first.

httpx2

Changed

  • Look up only the cookie domains that match the request host, and skip the expired cookie sweep until a cookie is due. With 1,000 cookies across 500 domains, building the Cookie header is about 18 times faster. Cookies from different domains are now sent from the least to the most specific domain (#1285).

Fixed

  • Reuse the client cookie jar instead of copying it on every request and redirect. A custom policy set with client.cookies.jar.set_policy() now applies to outgoing requests (#1284).

httpcore2

No changes since 2.15.1. Version bumped to stay in lockstep with httpx2.

Full Changelog: pydantic/httpx2@v2.15.1...v2.16.0

v2.15.1

Highlights

🔒 Flat CPU usage for long-lived clients on Linux

On Linux, the default SSL context is now configured once instead of on every handshake (#1253). With OpenSSL older than 3.4, each handshake added a duplicate certificate lookup path, so CPU usage per request grew over the lifetime of a reused client. Certificate verification is unchanged, and Windows and macOS still use truststore.

httpx2

Fixed

  • Configure the default SSL context once on Linux, instead of on every handshake. With OpenSSL older than 3.4, CPU usage grew over the lifetime of a reused client (#1253).

2.15.0 (October 19th, 2026)

Removed

  • Drop support for Python 3.10. (#1274)

2.14.0 (October 18th, 2026)

Added

  • Match IP CIDR ranges, like 192.168.0.0/16 and [fe80::]/10, in NO_PROXY and mounts. Requests to any address in the range now bypass the proxy; previously only the network address itself did. (#1165)
  • Accept bracketed IPv6 addresses, like [::1] and [::1]:8080, in NO_PROXY. (#1267)

Changed

  • Raise InvalidURL for a mounts key with an IP host followed by anything other than a valid CIDR prefix, like all://10.0.0.0/33. (#1165)

Fixed

  • Ignore NO_PROXY entries that cannot be parsed, instead of raising InvalidURL when the client is created. (#1267)
  • Import httpx2 on FIPS-enforced Python builds without hashlib.md5. DigestAuth raises ProtocolError when the server asks for an unavailable algorithm. (#1130)
  • Handle reads after an ASGI WebSocket app shuts down, instead of leaking anyio exceptions. (#1233)
  • Stop the sync WebSocket session from hanging on exit when its event queue is full. (#1123)

Updates azure-identity from 1.26.0 to 1.27.0

Release notes

Sourced from azure-identity's releases.

azure-identity_1.27.0

1.27.0 (2026-10-26)

Features Added

  • Added support for WorkloadIdentityCredential identity binding mode in AKS environments. This feature uses an AKS proxy to handle FIC exchanges on behalf of pods, addressing Entra's limit on federated identity credentials per managed identity. Enable it by constructing WorkloadIdentityCredential directly with enable_azure_proxy=True. Identity binding mode isn't supported through DefaultAzureCredential. (#43287, #44147)

Bugs Fixed

  • Fixed AzureDeveloperCliCredential to correctly parse error messages from Azure Developer CLI v1.23.7 and later, which previously caused raw JSON to surface in ClientAuthenticationError instead of the underlying error text. (#46711)
  • Fixed persistent token cache isolation on macOS when using custom cache names or CAE-enabled caches. (#49314)
  • Fixed a regression in 1.26.0 where asynchronous OnBehalfOfCredential instances could not reuse access or refresh tokens cached by another instance with the same user assertion. Cache entries are now isolated by user assertion, allowing safe reuse across instances, including with TokenCachePersistenceOptions. Existing cache entries without assertion binding require a fresh token exchange. (#49533)

Updates numpy from 2.5.3 to 2.5.4

Release notes

Sourced from numpy's releases.

v2.5.4 (Oct 10, 2026)

NumPy 2.5.4 Release Notes

Released on 2026-10-10.

NumPy 2.5.4 is a patch release that fixes bugs discovered after the 2.5.3 release. Highlights are:

  • Many typing fixes and improvements,
  • A workaround for the MSVC 19.51 bug, see below.

This release supports Python versions 3.12-3.15.

Improvements

  • numpy.linalg.svd and numpy.linalg.lstsq now raise for inputs containing infinities instead of returning garbage results.

  • Fixed hangs in numpy.linalg.svd and numpy.linalg.lstsq for certain inputs containing infinities for recent versions of some LAPACK implementations.

  • numpy.linalg.cond now handles non-finite inputs more consistently.

(gh-32593)

StringDType hashing with NaN sentinels

StringDType instances with equivalent floating-point NaN sentinels now have equal hashes. Previously, distinct NaN objects could produce equal dtype instances with different hashes, causing dictionary lookups and set deduplication to fail.

(gh-32563)

Changes

MaskedArray resets a fill_value that cannot be represented in a new dtype

A fill_value copied from a source array is now reset to the default fill_value for the new dtype when it cannot be represented in that dtype. Previously the copied value could be stale: ufuncs that change dtype left the result holding a fill_value typed for the old dtype, which raised a TypeError only when something later validated it (such as .view()), and a floating point fill_value that overflows an integer dtype was kept as an out-of-range value together with a RuntimeWarning. Both now fall back to the default, including when a masked array is passed to MaskedArray with a different dtype. A fill_value given explicitly by the user is still validated and raises as before. This can now raise a ComplexWarning if the fill_value is complex and the new dtype is real.

Updates mkdocs-material from 9.7.7 to 9.8.0

Release notes

Sourced from mkdocs-material's releases.

mkdocs-material-9.8.0

[!WARNING]

Material for MkDocs reaches end of life on May 5, 2027. Critical fixes and security updates continue until that date.

We're continuing our work with Zensical, a maintained successor built by the team behind Material for MkDocs. It carries forward what we've learned from building documentation tools with this community, with Markdown authoring, a familiar design, and full control over your content. Zensical is Open Source and MIT-licensed.

You can evaluate Zensical alongside MkDocs using your existing mkdocs.yml. Check plugin compatibility and compare your pages, navigation, search, and customizations before switching. The classic theme variant preserves the appearance of Material for MkDocs. See the migration guide for the steps and current compatibility details.

Upcoming changes on November 5

This is primarily a security release. It raises dependency minimums to address known vulnerabilities. We recommend upgrading to this release and updating your dependency lockfiles.

Python 3.11 or newer is now required. Python 3.8–3.10 are no longer supported.

  • Updated Node build-time dependencies to fix vulnerabilities
  • Updated Python dependency minimums and required Python 3.11
  • Removed RSS from recommended dependencies
  • Updated project status and maintenance links
  • Updated CLI notice with end-of-life and migration guidance
  • Removed redirects from recommended dependencies

Previous dependency ranges allowed versions with known vulnerabilities. The new minimums cover core Python dependencies and the optional git and imaging extras, including GitPython 3.2.1 or newer for the git extra.

Recent releases of mkdocs-rss-plugin and mkdocs-redirects depend on ProperDocs, a separate static site generator that Material for MkDocs does not require. Removing these plugins from the recommended extra keeps its dependency footprint smaller and leaves the choice of additional tools to each project. If your project uses RSS feeds or redirects, declare the relevant plugin explicitly in your own dependencies.

The CLI notice now gives the May 5, 2027 end-of-life date and links to the Zensical migration guide. It also clarifies that third-party ProperDocs migration notices do not represent a recommendation from the Material for MkDocs team. Package metadata now marks the project as inactive and includes maintenance and migration links.

Selected Python security advisories addressed by the new minimums:

Dependency Affected versions New minimum Advisory
